Three-day seminar-workshop on “Basic Records and Archives Management”
Sr. Mary Samuelle A. Formoso, OSB, Head of the School Archives and her staff, Miss Marijes Loren D. Guinto attended a three-day seminar-workshop on Basic Records and Archives Management last March 19-21, 2019 at Bayview Park Hotel, Manila. The event was organized by the National Archives of the Philippines.
The National Archives of the Philippines (NAP) is an attached agency of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. It is the agency mandated to collect, store, preserve and make available archival records pertaining to the history and development of the country. It regularly conducts seminar-workshops on records management, archives administration, conservation, and preservation to enhance the knowledge and skills of Archivists, Records Officers and Records Custodians.
The seminar-workshop was very relevant and enriching. Basic principles and standards on records appraisal, records filing, records inventory, records retention and disposition were comprehensively discussed by the speakers. The workshops aided the participants in applying the principles learned. They were also encouraged to ask questions pertaining to their work and experiences as records officers. Clarifications regarding policies were also brought up.
Having a plan to review the current policies and procedures of the School Archives, the knowledge and insights gained from the seminar-workshop was very timely and significant.
The other participants of the three-day seminar-workshop were Mr. Arnel B. Moico, Reference Librarian of the College Library, Mrs. Jocelyn A. Desamito, College Library Staff, and Mrs. Lea A. Habitan, of the College AVC.
