SSC Manila stands up for climate justice campaign
Gathered as God’s family on Sunday, November 29, 2015, First Sunday of Advent and the eve of the opening of the 21st Conference Parties (COP 21) for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris, France, the Ecology Ministry of the Archdioceses of Manila in collaboration with the parishes, educational institutions and environmentalist groups spearheaded the Solidarity Prayer March for Climate.
Heeding Pope Francis’ call to “go out of the streets and in the name of God defend Mother Earth,” the Sisters together with about eighty (80) college students, teachers and administrators led by Sr. Mary Frances Dizon, OSB, School President and Sr. Celine Saplala, OSB. Institutional Social Action Coordinator participated in the Climate Solidarity Prayer held at Plaza Fergusson, Malate, and Manila. The SSC-M contingent walked on foot from Leon Guinto Street to Roxas Blvd and join the different ecology advocates including the indigenous people coming from various districts of Metro Manila where the program took place. The celebration of the Eucharist presided over by Bishop Broderick Pabillo crowned the climate justice campaign for immediate and hold solutions on the universal crisis of global warming.
In this Advent season, we hope and pray that world leaders attending the COP 21 will craft concrete climate action plan to combat global warming and mitigate its impact on all peoples especially those from vulnerable countries like the Philippines.
