SSC Grade School Weaves in Solidarity at PCNE7
The 7th Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE) was held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on January 28 and 29 with the theme “At Sino Ang Aking Kapwa? (And who is my neighbor? – Luke 10:29)”. It focused on the Year of Ecumenism, Interreligious Dialogue, and Indigenous Peoples, which is part of the preparation for the celebration of 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines in 2021. Different religious groups and indigenous peoples graced the event.
In line with this celebration, selected Grade School Junior Benedictine Volunteer (JBV) students performed the maypole dance while “Weave One Heart” was sung by the GS Children’s Choir and selected students of the College of Music.
Maypole dance is a ceremonial folk dance performed around a pole with coloured ribbons woven to form patterns. In PCNE7, the maypole dance of the GS students was done to represent the “weaving” of different faiths and cultures.
The student participants were trained and accompanied by their teachers Ms. Lilian Cristobal, Ms. Neri Gomez, Ms. Lilibeth Launico, Ms. Cielito Mirandilla, Ms. Leslie Marquez, Mr. James Doak and Mr. Chris Eusebio.
His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal G. Tagle, the PCNE Chairman, was the keynote speaker for the conference while the PCNE team was led by Rev. Fr. Jason H. Laguerta.
