SSC Economics Team Grabs 2nd Place in the National Online Stock Trading Challenge
The recent National Economics Challenge on Online Stock Trading ended last 18 May 2015, which also marked the finals day of stock market trading of the competition. Garnering the second highest account value after almost a month of trading, the St. Scholastica’s College Economics Team placed 2nd among twelve (12) other trading teams from different schools.
The competition, dubbed National Economics Challenge, was spearheaded by the School of Economics Student Council, University of the Philippines. It was supported by Maybank Philippines, Maketrade, and the Philippine University Investment Club. The Challenge had three events: a) Stock Trading Challenge; b) Social Policy Challenge; and c) Stata Challenge (for UP students only). The SSC Economics Team participated in the Stock Trading Challenge event. The online stock trading challenge event which started last April 2015 was a simulation game version of actual stock trading environment and activity in country. It hoped to stimulate interests of students and young minds in stock trading by reading and forecasting market information provided online to identify shares and make judgments of when to buy and sell in order to make a profit.
The SSC Economics Team was composed Ms. Danica Lindog, Thelma Pamani and Phatricia Tamayo of the International Business and Diplomacy (IBEAD) Department, School of Business. They were coached by Prof. Francis Ian Quesada under the guidance of the Department Chair Robert Robang. As the 2nd placer, the Team received a cash prize of P3,000 and possible stock placements. It was the first time St. Scholastica’s College participated in the said national competition, and it will not be the last.
