As part of the formation and outreach program of St. Scholastica’s College, Manila and the Community of Benedictine Sisters in Tacloban, Leyte, an outreach activity was conducted in Sambayanan ni San Benito (SSB) last October 20-22, 2018. The Dean of the School of Business, Dr. Ronald Romero, Prof. Leofel Vergara of the Institute of Hotel, Leisure and Resort Management, along with Prof. Rebecca Marquez, ISAC Director and Sr. Carmela Mitaran, OSB had a two day finance consultation and training on Modules on Financial Management and Financial Literacy and Wellness to the 30 resident families of SSB.
The training conducted was a result of a recommendation presented in the last SSC outreach exploratory trip in June 2018 where it was articulated that the SSB needed guidance in running the community store and managing the community farm. As such, the first day focused on a meeting and evaluation with the officers of SSB to define their needs and gray areas in their financial endeavors, particularly the community store and farm. The next day, the training on Financial Management and Financial Literacy and Wellness were conducted with all the members of the resettlement community. Financial systems were clarified and refined.
