Scholasticans lend their voices for the Manila Production of La Boheme
The Manila production of Puccini’s La Boheme on Oct. 18 and 19, 2014, held at the Samsung Hall, heralded another Scholastican triumph with the participation of the school’s music alumni, faculty and students.
Myramae Meneses, batch 2014, shone as Musetta, a delectably desirable but benvolent Parisian siren, opposite the celebrated baritone Fernando Araujo’s Marcello, who essayed the role of Marcello. The electrifying main cast was joined by Viva Voce, headed by SSC voice professor Camille Lopez Molina, who served as the co-music director of the production. Scholasticans included in the promising ensemble of young opera singers were alumnae Iona Ventocilla and Kristine Marie Balingcos, and students Ivan Nery and Roby Malubay, who were understudies for the remaining major roles in the opera. Also joining the cast were students Michaela Fajardo (4th year), Marco Bongon and Michael Galang (3rd year).
The other lead roles in the stellar cast were played by soprano Margarita Gomez-Gianelli, a Filipino recipient of the Rosa Poncelle Award, American tenor Scott Ramsay and Filipino baritones Greg de Leon and Nonon Baang. The popular Puccini opera, which was produced by MusicArtes Inc., was directed by Anton Juan.
