Sambayanan ni San Benito Homes for the Homeless – Phase 2

On Thursday, October 14, 2015 at ten in the morning, the ceremonial hand-over of the staff house to St. Scholastica’s College, Manila commenced with a prayer service led by Rev. Fr. Edgar Monge, Parish Priest of Brgy Libertad, Palo followed by the blessing of the model units. The turn-over ceremony was witnessed by the Missionary Benedictine Sisters from St. Scholastica’s College-Manila, Divine Word Hospital and St. Scholastica’s College-Tacloban, the Officials of the municipality of Palo, Leyte, and the representatives from Habitat for Humanity Philippines, and Ortigas and Company. Likewise present were some of the family members of future dwellers whose house were destroyed by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013.

After the blessing of the duplex staff house and speeches of HFHP and Ortigas and Company officials, Mr. Augusto Baltazar, HFHP Director of Design, Construction and Quality Assurance and Mr. Joselito F. Santos, Senior Vice-President, Ortigas and Company presented to Sr. Mary Frances Dizon, OSB, President of St. Scholastica’s College-Manila the symbolic key to the Staff house in the presence of Hon. Remedios Petila, Mayor of Palo and Hon. Darina Romero, Barangay Captain of Brgy Libertad, Palo, Leyte. This was followed by the signing of the Memorandum of Acceptance of Receipt. A simple snack was served for all.

As St. Scholastica’s College, Manila in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HFHP) and Ortigas and Company graciously accepted the build-forward prototype model units for the Sambayanan ni San Benito resettlement community in the municipality of Palo, Leyte, it has looked forward to completion of 15 duplex houses for 30 homeless families.
