KULASAyaw Para sa Kalayaan (A Flash Mob)
The Political Science Society (POLIS) ended its annual organization week by holding a flash mob dubbed as “KULASAyaw Para sa Kalayaan” where the Scholastican community commemorated the 42nd anniversary of the imposition of the Martial Law through a choreographed dance. Held last September 12, 2014, the SSC field became a venue for political expression and celebration of freedom. Some fifty-two members of the organization danced alongside DanzEdge for a three-minute routine meant to celebrate the strong spirit of the Filipino in the midst of the struggles experienced during the dark days of Martial Law.
The activity was graced by students and faculty members of the College Unit spearheaded by the Dean of Arts and Sciences, Prof. Maria Asuncion Azcuna. Following the concept of a flash mob, the participating members of POLIS and DanzEdge assembled in a seemingly spontaneous manner to perform their choreographed dance routine which served as their platform for expressing their ideas and advocacy on political freedom and responsible citizenship. At the end of the routine, Ms. Sussane Faye Buffe, President of the Political Science Society, further deepened the activity by delivering a statement that reiterated why it is important that Filipinos remember the lessons of Martial Law. She expressed the hope that in our remembrance of history, the youth will remain vigilant and mindful in protecting democracy by practicing responsible citizenship and upholding freedom.
