JMA’s Visit to Tala Leprosarium
The spirit of Christmas was felt earlier by the members of the Junior Marketing Association and the Christian Community Development last December 1, 2014. The two organizations visited Tala Leprosarium to give joy and smiles to the elderly people who spend almost their entire life in the area. The group of students was accompanied by the CCD Moderator, Ms. Mona Dayag and the Marketing Department Faculty member, Ms. Laline Divinagracia. The group left the school at around 1:30 pm on that Monday.
It was a very heartwarming event to see some successful stories of surviving the Hansen Disease. The program started with an opening prayer followed by merienda with the students. There were three alumni from CCD who sponsored the food. They feasted with the simple meal prepared while sharing their inspiring stories with the students.
Apart from the sharing, there were two JMA members who serenaded the elders with a song which made some of them cry. At the end of the program, the whole group of students sang a Christmas song while giving each elderly person a Benedictine medal which will serve as their remembrance from the Scholasticans. This ending activity made them cry and one of them spoke up to the microphone to personally thank the Scholastican community for coming to them.
For them, this simple gesture is a huge gift that they will never forget and at same time, a once-in-a-lifetime heartwarming activity they will ever experience.
