International Day of Peace
The International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day, is celebrated annually on September 21. In 2013, for the first time, the Day was dedicated by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to peace education as the means to bring about a culture of peace.To celebrate World Peace Day, various activities were lined up like a talk on cyber ethics, training of peacebuilders, moments of peace photo exhibit and poster exhibit on the theme “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All”.
The talk on cyber ethics for grades 9, 10 and 11 took place on September 11 at the Sr. Kuniberta Hall. The speakers were Ms. Mae Rafanan, Associate Dean of SAO and Atty. Abigail Valte, HS Batch ‘98 and the Deputy Spokesman of Philippine President. The speakers talked about the ethical, responsible and appropriate use of digital media and legal aspect of cyber use. The talk on cyber ethics for grades 7 and 8 took place on October 5, 2015.
The training of Peace Builders on Conflict Management took place on September 18, 2015. Tita Jo Bargas, HS Guidance Coordinator and Tita Vigie de Vera, Guidance Counselor conducted the training. During the training, the Peace Builders were given some insights on how to manage conflict. The Peace Builders also took their pledge as Peace Builders.
The Poster Making on this year’s World Peace Day theme took place on September 11. The posters were exhibited on September 21 – 25, 2015.
Several photos submitted by selected students were also exhibited to show moments of peace.
