GS Benefit Show Gives Totally to Tacloban

November 11,2014

The Grade School Unit’s Children’s and Teachers’ Theater, with the special participation of selected students and school community members, had a successful fundraising presentation for the benefit of the Yolanda survivors last October 17, 2014. The show highlighted the faculty’s two short plays, “Ang Pag-ibig ni Virgil at Cely” by Lazaro Espinosa and “Pitong Taon” by Fidel Sicam. The plays were directed by the Drama and Theater in Education Coordinator Ms. Divina David as the culmination of the Drama Training Workshop for this school year. Three shows were staged to accommodate the Grade School students, parents, and guests who watched.

Among the shows’ special participants were the teachers who formed an Anklung Ensemble and a folk dance group who performed “Sayaw sa Bakya”. The students’ Ethnic Ensemble and Rondalla club also presented their own numbers. A Sabayang Pagbigkas group composed of Grade 6 students performed their APPSAM-winning piece “Wikang Filipino sa Pambansang Kaunlaran”. Sixth grader Angela Magpantay, who was a finalist for the APPSAM singing competition, sang “Lipad ng Pangarap”. Vice-President for Academic Affairs Virgina Fornias formed a special group made up of teachers, office staff, and general services personnel to dance the “Carinosa”. They generously committed their time and effort to support the Grade School’s cause.

The three shows’ total ticket sales amounting to P182,000 was turned over to two beneficiaries: SSC’s Social Action Center for Yakapskwela and St. Scholastica’s Alumnae Foundation, Inc. for Totally Tacloban. Grade School Principal S. Regina David, OSB, together with Coordinator for Student Services Mrs. Ida Lingad and Faculty Club Vice-President Mr. Eduardo Baylon, gave the ticket sales to S. Celine Saplala, Director of SAC and Ms. Gigi Pratts, President of SSAFI.
