Grade 7 Student is Top 3 in National Coding Competition
Grade 7 student Marsha Sophia Delos Reyes bagged “Top 3 Coder” in WeCode National 2019 held at the Mapua University, Manila last September 20, 2019.
Based on the theme “2050 Food Effect” and using a programming application (or app) called Scratch, she created a game about a machine that can plant fast-growing crops.
The theme of WeCode aimed to inspire others to create a sustainable food future by 2050.
Delos Reyes competed in the Advanced category of the said competition.
Organized by First Eduspec Inc., WeCode National 2019 is a multi-layered competition open to all primary and secondary students with the goal of producing an original animation, game or mobile app depending on the category they are qualified.
The objectives of WeCode are “to nurture 21st Century skills among students”,”to promote computational thinking”, and “to stimulate students’ interest in Coding”.
In a social media post by First Eduspec Inc., “Steve Jobs once said that everyone should learn to program a computer because it teaches us how to think. Therefore, it is important to start from young.”
