The copyright law of the Philippines (Part IV of R.A. 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) governs the making of photocopies or reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “Fair Use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

Sec. 185. Fair use of a copyrighted work constitute the following conditions: (1) The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for non-profit education purposes; (2) The nature of copyrighted work; (3) The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and (4) The effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order or DDS request if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order or request would involve violation of copyright law.

The SSC Library expects that all users will strictly adhere to the copyright law in both their requests for and their use of materials. Submitting the request form indicates that the requester understands and is in compliance with the copyright law.
