SSC President's Orientation 2010

Sr. Angelica Leviste, OSB, President of St. Scholastica’s College, Manila, as part of her annual tradition, gave an orientation on the school’s direction for school year 2010-2011 to the Scholastican Community.  Sr. Angelica delivered her orientation on the following dates:

June 7-9; 17-18 (St. Cecilia’s Hall), College students
June 9 & 12 (Sr. Caridad Barrion Hall), College faculty
June 12 (Sr. Kuniberta Hall), OP/PS and GSP staff
June 10 (Sr. Ehrentrudis Hall), High School newcomers; 
            (Barrion Hall), HS Faculty
June 15-18 (Sr. Kuniberta Hall), High School students
June 21-22 (Sr. Kuniberta Hall), Grade School students
June 22 (Sr. Caridad Barrion Hall), Night Secondary School
             students and faculty
June 23 (HS-AVR), High School Faculty

Sr. Angelica is also scheduled to give her orientation to parents of the High School, Grade School and College students on
July 3, 10 and 31, respectively.

A highlight of Sr. Angelica's talk was the showing of a video featuring alumnae who were the country’s firsts in their respective professions.  These included distinguished SSC alumnae, among others:  President Corazon C. Aquino, Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma, Sister Irene Dabalus, OSB, Mother Mary John Mananzan, OSB, Sister Angelica Leviste, OSB, Joy Rojas, Aurora Carandang Gloria, Olivia Bong Coo Garcia, Gloria Diaz, Gloria Topacio Caoile, and Mitch Valdez.

Sr. Angelica explained that these alumnae possessed the Benedictine ideals of Ora et Labora which guided them in their endeavors.   She then reiterated that the teachers or educators of SSC Manila have roles to play in building a nation … that they are responsible in molding their students for them to become good citizens of the country.  And to nurture these qualities in their students, the faculty members have to strengthen the students’ values following the 10 Benedictine Hallmarks of Education.  Sr. Angelica further explained that by performing their roles, faculty members will remain true to SSC’s Mission for 2009-2012, which is for everyone in the SSC Community to become “Leaders in the Service of Christ, Country and Creation”.
