SSC says NO to Con-Ass!

“When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
When the wicked rule, the people groan.”
Proverbs 29:2

St. Scholastica’s College (SSC), Manila stood firm in saying NO to Constituent Assembly, one of the modes of amending or revising the 1987 Constitution.  They expressed disgust to House Resolution No. 1109 approved last June 2, 2009 by the lower house.  Mother Mary John Mananzan, OSB, various lay administrators, Benedictine sisters, faculty members from Grade School, High School and College units, college students leaders and selected Office and General Services personnel marched from Greenbelt to corner of Paseo de Roxas and encircled the Ninoy Aquino Statue in Makati City last June 10, 2009.  They joined the assembly of the civil society and other political players opposing HR 1109.

SSC once again heed the call of the masses to stop the alleged ambition of GMA “to perpetuate herself in power,” by participating in another anti-Con-Ass rally last June 30, 2009.  Prof. Rebecca Marquez, Chairperson of the Department of Women Studies, shared that SSC marched along with other schools like College of St. Benilde and De La Salle University in Liwasang Bonifacio.  They met up along the way with students from Philippine Christian University, University of the Philippines, University of Manila, Lyceum, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and Mapua and converged with the university students from Quezon City such as University of the Philippines and Ateneo among others.  Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim also joined the throng of students in the rally.

SSC will definitely live up to its call of protecting the Constitution from power-grabbers and lawless elements who aim to usurp the sovereignty that solely belongs to the people.
