Women Empowerment: The Scholastican Way
St. Scholastica’s College is celebrated as one of the leading pioneers of gender equality and gender mainstreaming. As such, the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) invited institute of Women’s Studies Director and well-known activist Sr. Mary John Mananzan, OSB to teach the JPIA community during the seminar entitled “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!” last 8th of January 2016 at the Function Hall A.
In the said seminar, Sr. Mary John enlightened the JPIA community regarding the continuous increase of violations against women as well as the widening discrepancy of men and women internationally.
However, despite the various problems and issues faced by women, Sr. Mary John proudly explains the solutions of such include CHED Memorandum No. 01, 2015 which requires every public and private school to have gender mainstreaming in their curriculum.
St. Mary John, in the end, was able to empower the young minds of the JPIA community to stand up for themselves and not to be violated out of the sole reason that they are women.
