The “Ora et Labora” Play 2014
An interpretation of what had been the lives of twins Benedict and Scholastica as saints was executed superbly in the “Ora et Labora” play for the first year students at the Kuniberta Hall in the afternoon of August 11.
As Scholasticans, it is part of our journey to have knowledge about the biographies of SSC’s progenitors: St. Scholastica and her twin St. Benedict; and the history of the school’s well-known Benedictine motto “Ora et Labora” which means “Prayer and Work”. Sining Tanghalan was the one behind Ora et Labora’s direction and staging. St. Scholastica was portrayed by Jillian Adrias and St. Benedict by Mykell Montallana. The play was informative and amusing. Unlike other theatrical performances where the actors perform only on the stage, Sining Tanghalan was very creative and carried out the play all-around a dimmed Kuniberta Hall while students sat on the floor. The play simply used stage lightings and a few props, but the actors, with their impressive and hair-raising enactment, kept the students’ attention glued on the play and hanging on their every word. The students had a better sense and closer look on the lives of St. Scholastica and St. Benedict in just one sitting.
