SSC-Manila responds to the relief needs of victims of typhoon “Yolanda” in Leyte
St. Scholastica’s College, Manila immediately became a relief operations center for victim of the super storm “Yolanda” which hit Leyte last November 2013. The outpouring of support was overwhelming as students, alumni, staff and friends continuously dropped off solicited relief goods, from food, to water, to medicines, to clothes. Alumni and friends abroad also solicited funds from their friends and sent them to the school. Others came to help sort and pack.
Generous hearts helped in transporting the relief goods to Tacloban. Air Asia volunteered several humanitarian trips to transport medicines and hospital supplies to the Divine Word Hospital in Tacloban run by the Benedictine Sisters. Trucks and vans were also made available by friends and relatives for relief operations.
Distribution of housing materials to St. Scholastica’s College, Tacloban staff and their families affected by “Yolanda” were also done from December 26-30, 2013. Housing materials such as galvanized roofing, plywood and wood were given to the families of 15 SSC-T personnel whose housed were destroyed by the super storm.
A publication update called “Oplan Yolly” was released to provide information on the relief operations and to acknowledge the donors of the relief operations.
