SSC-M High School Holds Medical Mission: A Day of Feeding and Healing
The medical mission is one of the annual outreach activities of the High School Unit that respond to the needs of the indigents and the needy in our partner communities one of which is the Samahang Komunidad ng Pandacan at Paco Inc. (SKPP). Here our Grade 9 and Grade 10 students go for their exposure trips.
On Nov. 8, 2014 around four hundred (400) residents from thirteen (13) Barangays of Pandacan and Paco communities under the SKPP availed of the free medical and dental services organized and collaborated by the High School Parents Association (HSPA), the High School Faculty Association (HSFA) and the High School Outreach Office (Tanggapan ng Kalinga). About seventy-five (75) volunteer parents and students, teachers, office staff and maintenance personnel took part in this annual outreach activity of the High School Unit through the able leadership of Mrs. Suzette H. Gatmaitan, Chair of the HSPA Outreach Committee, Mrs. Yasmin R. Nuguid, HSFA President and Ms. Norie Belaro, High School Outreach coordinator.
The one-day medical mission consisted of physical examination conducted by volunteer pediatricians, general practitioners, optometrists, obstetricians-gynecologists among others. Prescribed medicines and vitamins solicited from Pharmaceutical companies were dispensed accordingly at the pharmacy section. In addition, eye check-up was done and eye glasses were sold at a discounted price.
In addition, the medical teams conducted lectures with open forum on the “Prevention of Cervical Cancer” and “The Promotion of Healthy Lifestyle and Eating Habits” while patients waited for their turn.
The “soup kitchen” served arrozcaldo to all the patients after their consultation and treatment. Loot bags, give-a-way items were also distributed.
At the end of the activity, certificates of appreciation were presented to all volunteer workers. The barangay officials thanked everyone who made the outreach successful and fruitful, giving glory to Jesus’ name.
