SSC Joins the yearly September 1 “Walk for Creation”
Last September 1, 2017, St. Scholastica’s College joined the “Walk for Creation,” along with other Catholic organizations and schools at the Luneta Park. Spearheaded by the Global Catholic Climate Movement (GCCM), the event launched the “Season of for Care of Creation” which started on September 1 and ends on October 4, 2017. Instituted by Pope Francis, the event aims to increase the awareness on the care for our common home, Mother Earth.
Despite the muddy grounds of Luneta, the event started with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist led by Cardinal Antonio Tagle. Afterwhich the participants went around Burnham Green in Luneta Park, meditating and reflecting on the Five Movements of Creation which presented the development of the earth and the ways the earth is abused. The highlight of the “Walk” was a commitment to the “Laudato Si” Pledge. Each school, and institution are expected to gather signatures for the Laudato Si Pledge which will later be turned over to the Pope.
The SSC delegation who joined the early morning walk was composed of more than 30 sisters, faculty, alumni and staff.
