SSC International Business Economics & Diplomacy (IBEAD) Team Grabs 3rd Place in the 2014 National Economic Challenge on Monetary Policy
The International Business Economics & Diplomacy (IBEAD) Team of the School of Business grabbed the 3rd place in the recent 2014 National Economic Challenge on Monetary Policy sponsored by the UP School of Economics, Diliman. Team members were Fe B. Evangelista and Rouselle Angela A. Manuel, both 3rd year majors in IBEAD. The IBEAD team competed against eight (8) teams from other schools, colleges and universities. It was held last February 1, 2014 at the School of Economics, University of the Philippines, Diliman. The winners were announced on March 13, 2014 through their official Facebook Page, with Far Eastern University (FEU) winning 2nd place, and University of Santo Tomas (UST) 1st place.
As stated in its website, “the National Economics Challenge (NEC) is a collaborative project of the UP School of Economics Student Council (UP SESC), UP Economic Society (UP EcoSoc), UP Economic Towards Consciousness (UP ETC) and the UP Organization of Business Economic Majors (UP OBEM). Gathering the best and brightest Economics majors from all over the country, NEC also strives to uphold the relevance of Economics in nation-building through the quality competitions it creates.”
The NEC a tri-event academic tournament for junior economists to help them apply the skills and understanding which is very distinctive in their field. The Monetary Policy is one challenge activity open to other schools. The Monetary Policy Challenge is an on-the-spot case writing competition where students are given the chance to think in the shoes of the Monetary Board of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas within three (3) hours given both online and written resources.
It was the first time that an IBEAD Team joined such a prestigious competition upon recommendation of Dean Ramon Mañalac of the School of Business, himself a former president of the UP Economics Society during his university days. It was ironic that the SSC IBEAD team was the only team composed of two (2) members while the other seven (7) competing teams had three (3) members. The IBEAD tandem was mentored and trained by Professor Francis Ian R. Quesada, a professor of the IBEAD Department. Congratulations to the IBEAD tandem for winning the competition!
“That in all things God may be Glorified!”
