SSC Community Conducts its Yearly Tree Planting
Last October 17, 2019, 41 sisters, students, faculty and personnel of SSC Manila joined the Institutional Tree Planting conducted in the St. Scholastica’s Organic Farm in Tanay, Rizal. The activity was part of the Season for Creation Campaign spearheaded by the Global Catholic Climate Movement. This year’s theme was “Care for the Web of Life.”
The tree planting activity started with a prayer led by the Grade School students. Mr. Mapa, a volunteer, followed with a discussion on the farm as a place for silence and peace. Sr. Alice, O.S.B., the Benedictine sister in charge of the farm, gave an orientation of the place. After this, the seedlings of local trees were blessed by Sr. M. Rosario Obiniana, O.S.B.
The group was then divided into teams and areas for planting were identified depending on the seedling to be planted. Thus there were the “Marang Team,” “Lanzones Team”, “Langka Team” and “Cacao Team.”
A community lunch followed. The group enjoyed going around the farm, picking and munching local guava fruits. The students learned to identify the trees and plants. The younger ones enjoyed touching the “Makahiya.”
