Seminar on Archives
To raise better awareness among the members of the school community on the importance of the Archives, the School Archives invited Prof. Regalado Trota Jose, Archivist of the University of Santo Tomas and professor of the Cultural Studies Program of the same university to give a talk on “Archives: Its Role in the Preservation of Our Culture and History”. last August 9, 2019.
Prof. Jose was one of the 100 Filipinos who received the Cultural Center of the Philippines Centennial Award for the Arts in 1999. He has conducted studies and written books on the cultural heritage of the Philippines for more than 30 years now. His book, “Simbahan” won the National Book Award for the Art Category in 1992.
In his talk, Prof. Jose emphasized that Archives are a part of the cultural heritage of the Church. They are places of memory of the Christian community and storehouses of culture for the new evangelization. He also discussed the pastoral function of the Church Archives.
As the highlight of his talk, Prof. Jose showed several photos of the UST Archives and its collections composed of original documents and records of the history of UST since its foundation in 1611.
Indeed, the seminar was informative and enriching for our 48 participants composed of Office Assistants from the three units and institutional offices. Sr. Christine Pinto, OSB, our school President and Dr. Virginia Fornias, Vice-President for Academic Affairs were also present during the activity.
