School of Business Faculty Attend EDU Summit ASEAN Integration 2015
Led by Dean Ramon R. Mañalac, the faculty of business attended the 2015 EDU Summit on ASEAN Integration of Education, Labor and Mobility last 23-24 February at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC), Pasay City. The central theme of the EDU Summit was international students, qualification leading to mobility in the ASEAN countries and internationally highlighting teacher educators.
The prominent speakers who provided interesting and up-to-date talks were Sen. Pia Cayetano, Senate Committee Head on Education who talked on Philippine competitiveness through education in the context of language, curriculum, recognition, and school-year term. Representative Ramon T. Romulo, the keynote speaker, reiterated the legislations enacted by the Congress to support faculty and non-faculty personnel of the Higher Education Institutions who are affected by the implementation of the K-12 program. He likewise provided a general view of the upcoming Tertiary Education Sector Transition Fund (TESTF) which was recently proposed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to Congress for legislation. The Fund aims to provide financial assistance to those adversely affected by the K-12 implementation. Other speakers included Dr. Genevieve Ledesma-Tan, Dr. Sarah Yonnie, Dr. Peter P. Laurel, Robert Horwood, and His Excellency Indonesian Ambassador Johny Lumintang.
The conference included a focus group workshop. The output of the workshop will be an integral part of the summit report which will be forwarded to Pres. Benigno Aquino III to fast track implementation by Executive Order.
The faculty members in the delegation were Professors Delia Sarmiento, Robert Robang, Christian Anne De Lumen, Francis Quesada, Jerry Yao Cocabo and Dr. Iris Sioson.
