Scholastican Pair Wins Gold in National Dance Championship

April 29,2019

Two members of the St. Scholastica’s College High School Dance Troupe garnered First Place in the “Senior Jazz Pair” division of the National Dance Championship last March 10 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Shannyne Lualhati of 10-Accountability and Lauren Abcede of 8-Compassion wowed spectators and participants from other schools with their performance in the competition. Dancing to Sarah Bareilles’ “She Used to be Mine,” the duo gave an expressive interpretation of the ambivalent feelings of a young woman looking back wistfully at her younger self.

The dance was choreographed by Ms. Susan Decena, the club trainer.

The Scholasticans bested five other pairs. Their co-competitors were from St. Paul College, Pasig (which was represented by two pairs), Miriam College High School, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, and the School of St. Anthony. The Jazz Pair division is a relatively new category in the National Dance Championship and this is the first time St. Scholastica’s College-Manila has fielded contestants. The gold medal is truly a feather in the cap for the Scholastican community.

For the Senior Jazz Pair category, the other winners were Miriam College High School for the silver, and St. Paul College, Pasig for the bronze.
