ROMA S. RODRIGUEZ, 3rd Year BSBA IBEAD major, chosen as one of the 30 participants nationwide for the 12th Annual Business Orientation Program (BOP) of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. (AMCHAM)
The invitation of the American Chamber of Commerce of Philippines, Inc. (AMCHAM) for the School of Business to nominate top 5 students for its prestigious Business Orientation Program came last October 2013. The AMCHAM specified that nominees should possess outstanding academic record, excellent English language communication skills, and demonstrate superb leadership qualities. In the screening process, the students competed against nominees of other schools, colleges and universities in the country. In the end, only thirty (30) students were selected nationwide.
Last February 1, Ms. Roma Rodriguez hurdled successfully the last elimination, a panel interview. It was preceded by 2 earlier screening stages which started as early as December 2013. Roma will be the proud participant to the 12th Annual Business Orientation Program (BOP) this summer of 2014, representing St. Scholastica’s College.
From the AMCHAM information sheet, the BOP is a week-long program for university students during which they are exposed to the real world operations and interact with top company officers of prestigious multinational companies through discussions and site visits. Companies to visit cover various industries, including banking, business process outsourcing, consumer products, hotels, information and creative communications technology, manufacturing, nutrition, energy, development and logistics. Throughout the week, students will also attend interactive talks by key officers from AMCHAM member firms, and partner organizations on various topics. Participants will also be asked to apply their knowledge and work together on a project, e.g., marketing plan, based on a Harvard Case Study. They will be divided into teams (from different schools) and present their output to a panel at the end of the week. The three (3) projects and a best individual presenter will be recognized in a ceremony during the closing awards dinner.
Aside from the above, students will have an opportunity to interact with the alumni of the BOP, US Embassy officers, the AMCHAM Board of Directors, BOP Company partners, and other AMCHAM members. Moreover, successful candidates will have the privilege to be administered the prestigious TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) and receive a certificate.
There is no cost for applying and participating in the BOP 2014. All BOP participants will be housed at E-Hotel, Makati throughout the week with subsidized costs of transportation to and from Makati (by land for those from Luzon and air for those from the Visayas and Mindanao) for the duration of the program. AMCHAM will provide transportation and meals for the activities during the program.
The previous SSC participant was Ms. Ricca F. Macabuac of the Marketing Management Department of the School of Business last year 2013. Before her, the last time SSC was represented was in 2004.
