REBUILDING COMMUNITY SCHOOL THROUGH PEOPLE’S INITIATIVES: “A new challenge in line with K-12”
The recently adopted community center of the COLLEGE OUTREACH CENTER (COC) through the NSTP program is Play and Learn Community Center of Purok 13 at Brgy. South Daang Hari, Taguig City, where long ago, it was already claimed as pilot area for a community school of Social Action Center in 1995. Simultaneously, this community served as laboratory for AB Social Development practicum students under Sr. Miriam Noemi Francisco, OSB, former SAC Director and Chairperson of Social Development, a course no longer offered in SSC. At that time, this community school was adopted by the Grade School Department under Mrs. Florina F. Castillo’s term as principal.
SSC phased out its involvement after having summed up the activities of community work of SSC and the people in the community saw their capability in building a community on their own and continuing its development.
This year, we are back at rebuilding the community school that we have started, although in an altered notion now, which is a “learning community center”. Run by the alumni of the community school, it will be a center that will cater to quality early childhood education, stimulating the development of the child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive, creative and moral, and prepare them for formal education and school.
Now the NSTP program of the COC will direct the different organizations of St. Scholastica’s College to be involved in the community center as part of our service to our brothers and sisters…
