Nutrition in Action
Last April 20, 2018, the 3rd year Nutrition and Dietetics students conducted an outreach activity entitled “Gabay Pang-pamilya Patungo Sa Mabuting Kalusugan”. The objective of the activity was to promote the adoption of desirable food and eating practices that ensures nutritional well-being, by increasing the level of awareness and knowledge about nutrition. The students conducted a lecture on the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipino also known as the “10 Kumainments”. The participants were from Barangay 43 Zone 6, Pasay City. Coordination was done with Barangay Captain Alejandro Mort Morales. The Nutrition students also conducted a cooking demonstration of low cost, easy to prepare but nutritious recipes namely: Saba Carrot Cheese Sticks, Squash Pastillas, Sapal Burger with Teriyaki Sauce, and Lumpia Veggie. The recipes were purposely developed to serve as a source of livelihood for the participants in starting a business of their own.
On the other hand, the students realized the value of teamwork as a crucial element towards conducting an organized and successful program, the importance of cooperation and of providing factual information when sharing knowledge with the barangay participants. To conclude, “Nutrition isn’t just about eating, it’s about learning to live.” – Patricia Comptton
