Living in Gratitude: Teachers’ Day 2015

March 2,2015

A teacher’s passion in her profession is not merely reflected in his or her ability to teach but more so in the lives that he or she touches. Each one of us became the person we are today through the helping hands and undying support of our dear educators. It is therefore only right to dedicate a special day to celebrate our gratitude for our beloved teachers.

Last January 28, 2015, St. Scholastica’s College celebrated the passion and dedication of our dear educators through the annual Teachers’ Day. The celebration started with the Student Council opening the Gratitude Boards in the Freezone that gave students the opportunity to thank their professors by writing their messages and dedications to the SC Gratitude boards. The boards were quickly filled with appreciation and gratitude from the students. The SC gratitude boards were on exhibit from January 22-30, 2015. On the actual day of the celebration, the day started off with a holy mass celebrated by Fr. Edward Foley OFM Capuchin who blessed our beloved educators. As per tradition in the college unit of SSC, the institutional mass was followed by the turn over ceremony of the college’s administrators and faculty of their respective roles to students for the Admin-Teacher-Student Swap. This activity was an opportunity for administrators, faculty and students to change places wherein students will act on the former’s behalf. Administrators from the Dean of College to professors exchanged roles with their students and the latter were given the chance to be deans and professors for a day. As students took the roles of some of the administrators and professors, Fr. Edward Foley gave a talk for our teachers entitled “Teachers as Missionary in the Spirit of Evangelii Gadium” at the Barrion Hall.

The Student Council also organized a bountiful feast for the teachers in the Speisesaal at the Friedenshaus, Hotel School. Professors were greeted by the Student Council Apprentices as they entered the dining hall. The Student Council with Business Information Technology Society (BITS) gave out notepads, the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) gave out roses and the Junior Association of Management (JAM) gave out button pins as tokens of appreciation and gratitude for our professors.  To give entertainment during the event, the Student Council organized a programmed hosted by Kulasa TV VJ Jane Bundoc. The programme featured three gratitude videos from the SC Video Committee headed by Ms. Priscilla Serneo, the Kulasa TV and the Communication Society (CommSoc).  The professors were also serenaded by the Society of Musicians (SOM) with performances from Mr. Paolo Angelo Pineda and Ms. Velle Baria. The Danz Edge also turned the beat up during the event as they performed a dance number. Students from the SC Write-up Committee namely Alaine Doble and Nicole Macarandang composed original poems dedicated to our dear educators. The event concluded with a fun game of “Pinoy Henyo” which everyone truly enjoyed.

After lunch, the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) organized the fourth season of the Faculty Quiz Bowl: Maalaala Ko Kaya which was participated by faculty from different schools, administrators, personnel and the general service staff. Ms. Raniela Domingo and Prof. Virginia Fornias followed by Prof. Anna Maria Ramirez and Faith de Real, and Prof. Mae Rafanan and Pau Dayrit were declared winners of the event. The Student Council with the Student Council Apprentices also gave out a free 15 minute massage for the professors at Conference Room 2c. Letters of Appreciation and Gratitude were also distributed by the Communication Society (CommSoc) and class representatives.

The celebration of Teachers’ Day continued with the Night of Music at the SSC field with performances from Prof. John Christian Valeroso and Prof. Francis Quesada. This was followed by a tear-jerker movie that featured a gifted teacher’s battle against Tourette’s Syndrome in the movie entitled “Front of the Class”.

Truly, students had come together to dedicate a special day to our dear educators. Our professors’ passion, commitment and dedication to their profession are something worth celebrating not just merely on Teachers’ Day but more so every day. Happy Teachers’ Day to our beloved educators!
