ECONOMICS ORGANIZATION (EconOrg) Brings South African Ambassador to Thailand to SSC
Through the auspices of the Economics Organization of the School of Business, her Excellency Ambassador Robina P. Marks of South Africa took timeout from her hectic schedule to give a talk to Scholasticans on her area of expertise, “Gender Equality and Women Empowerment” last 24 November 2014. No less than the SSC President herself, Sr. Frances Dizon OSB, together with Dean Ramon Mañalac and EconOrg President Rouselle Manuel welcomed Ambassador Marks. Since Ambasador Marks arrived an hour earlier than the scheduled time, Dean Mañalac took the chance to tour the Ambassador around the campus. The Ambassador was impressed with the old and new buildings around the campus, especially the Friedenshaus School Hotel. The hotel staff walked the Ambassador about to show the function rooms, spa room, and standard, executive and presidential guest rooms.
Held at the Odiliana Hall, the Ambassador wowed the young audience with her motherly pleasantries and yet Rihanna inspired quips and jibes. Ambassador Marks effectively set the tone of her talk that immediately caught the interests of the student audience. Prof. Robert Robang, OIC of the IBEAD Department did the opening remarks while Dr. Remedios Ching, the Dean of College closed the event expressing her thanks to Ambassador Marks.
After the talk, Ambassador Marks’ ala-Rihanna charm undoubtedly captured the hearts of the students as they swarmed to her on the stage for photo ops. She was so gracious to pose with the students and faculty in front of cameras, but was perplexed as to who “Wacky” was.
Before leaving the SSC campus, Ambassador Marks met with Mother Mary John Mananzan OSB. The two (2) internationally renowned activists, advocating gender equality and women empowerment had some moments of chat trying to bring together timelines, events and places familiar to both of them. They found common acquaintances and discovered that they attended same conferences in the past.
