COMELEC Official Gives Leadership Talk
Grades 4, 5, and 6 students attended a Leadership Talk held last July 14, 2015 at the Sr. Kuniberta Hall, with Mr. James Arthur Jimenez, a COMELEC official.
Mr. Jimenez explained the characteristics of a good leader. The spokesman also gave tips on how we can show these traits in class.
According to Mr. Jimenez, the good traits of a leader are: honesty, responsibility, confidence, enthusiasm, reliability, patience, decisiveness, determination, loyalty, and courage. He said that courage was the most important because leaders have to face challenges that they fear.
Mr. Jimenez also shared about his experiences as part of the COMELEC. He said that the best thing about his job is giving talks to students and teaching them about true leadership. He said that the worst things are finding out about cheating, and having to convince people to believe in the COMELEC despite perceptions that they are unfair and they spend too much for the automated elections.
Mr. Jimenez reminded us that leadership is about actions which inspire people to do great things. Knowing about the traits of good leaders can help us in choosing our officers. It can help us in working on ourselves so we can also become better leaders. We learned from the talk that we should vote wisely, for the good of the class. You shouldn’t just vote anyone because she is your friend. Every elected officer should possess the qualities of a good leader.
