2015 High School Graduation Song Competition: Huling Awit, Huling Hudyat
The high school unit held its annual Seniors’ Graduation Song Competition last February 27 at Sr. Ehrentrudis Hall. The competition, which was hosted by Pilar Ochave and Samantha Eala, challenged students to compose original Tagalog songs that encapsulate their high school experiences and learnings. To quote our MAPEH coordinator, Ms. Magbanua, this year’s song competition is a bittersweet one as it marks the end of an important chapter in our lives and also a chapter in SSC due to the implementation of the K to 12 program.
Dressed in full gala attire, all six sections of the fourth year performed their chosen songs in front of a distinguished panel of judges composed of Ms. Ma. Lourdes Miguel, Mr. James Doak, and former SSC High School music teacher, Mr. Kriss Eusebio. The numbers were 4-Stewardship’s Landas ng Tadhana, 4-Commitment’s Isang Pinanggalingan, 4-Honesty’s Abot na ang mga Bituin, 4-Order’s ‘Di Kakalimutan, 4-Life’s Takdang Oras, 4-Accountability’s Larawan, and 4-Commitment’s Isang Pinanggalingan. The performances left the judges with a difficult decision to make, but they ultimately decided to award third place to 4-Accountability, second place to 4-Order, and first place to 4-Stewardship, making Landas ng Tadhana batch 2015’s official graduation song.
The graduation song competition is the pinnacle of the St. Scho experience and I feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of the last batch of Scholasticans to participate in such an event, luckier still that my section’s song was chosen to represent our batch. While it may be difficult to say goodbye to everyone and everything that has become such an integral part of our lives, we know that the future, though uncertain, holds an even brighter promise.
