2014 College Organization Fair
“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
— Henry Ford
One of many activities the Student Council has had in store for the college unit, was the first ever Organization Fair, which was held last June 18 and 19, 2014. The event was aimed primarily to allow the different student organizations to raise funds for the upcoming Recruitment Week. Initially planned to be held for three days, the organizers decided that the third day would be reserved for the much awaited Kick Off Concert.
Each organization had a booth at the school’s open quadrangle and the field. The different stations developed creative ideas as to how to raise funds, given the initial capital provided by the Student Council. The ideas ranged from mixing your own mocktail, to an array of confectioneries for sale, such as graham balls, pastillas and the like. Some went the extra mile and crafted different nifty items which could be very helpful to students, such as planners, notebooks, and hand painted wallets.
Feedback from the students were a mix of both joys and points in which the activity could be improved. Many of them were happy to have this opportunity to raise funds and let their organizations be introduced to the first year students and the rest of the Scholastican community. On the another hand, some suggested that the activity would last for three days instead of two, to allow for an additional day of fundraising.
The Organization Fair was also to allow the freshmen and women to get an overview of the different organizations they could join. The event was bothered by sudden bursts of rain showers, but all in all, the activity served its purpose. The Student Council is in the works of preparing many more venues like this to encourage the student organizations to be as effective and active as they can be.
