Requirements

PRE-KINDER AND KINDER

The Grade School Unit will accept PRE-KINDER and KINDER applicants on the basis of requirements presented and interview.  An additional written examination will be given to KINDER applicants and will be an important source for assessment and acceptance. 

Non-Catholics can apply and be admitted provided they participate in all religious activities that are required of the students.  A waiver for non-Catholics can be found at the back of the application form and should be signed by parents or guardian of the applicants.

The school reserves the right to make the final decision in all cases after thorough study and deliberation. 

QUALIFICATIONS

By JUNE, PRE-KINDER applicant must already be FOUR (4) years old and KINDER applicant must already be FIVE (5) years old.  Applicants must be toilet trained and had established a certain degree of independence from parents / nanny.

REQUIREMENTS

1.   Accomplished APPLICATION FORM with 2×2 ID picture (APPLICATION FOR PRE-SCHOOL – GRADE 6 ADMISSION)

2.   ORIGINAL Birth Certificate by the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly National Statistics Office-NSO)

3.   Photocopy of Baptismal Certificate (original copy has to be presented)

4.   Certificate of Enrollment and photocopy of recent Report Card (if schooling)

5.   SSC Recommendation Form, enclosed in a sealed long, white mailing envelop with the signature across the flap.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1.   Secure Application Permit from the Admissions Office. Pay the non-refundable and non-transferable Application and Testing Fee of Php 500.00 to the Business Office.

2.   Present receipt and secure the Application Kit (Application Form, Recommendation (1/2) and Student Health Record Forms) from the Admissions Office.

3.   Submit accomplished forms and requirements.

4.   FOR KINDER APPLICANTS: secure TEST PERMIT
      FOR PRE-KINDER: get the SCHEDULE OF INTERVIEW FORM

The schedule of entrance test for Kinder and interview for Pre-kinder will depend on the earliest testing date available upon the submission of requirements.

5.   FOR KINDER APPLICANTS:  Take the entrance exam on scheduled date
      FOR PRE-KINDER APPLICANTS:  Come for the interview on given date

The Admissions Office shall take care of the scheduling of the applicants and will follow the “first-come-first-served basis” policy.

REQUIREMENT FOR FOREIGN APPLICANTS AND STUDENTS WITH DUAL CITIZENSHIP

1.   Make sure that academic records (report cards/transcript of records) were authenticated by the Office of the Philippine Embassy / Office of the Consular Official in the country which has jurisdiction over the issuing school.

Note: If the applicant is already in the Philippines and was not able to have the documents authenticated by the Philippine Embassy of the issuing school or country of origin, applicant can go to the Department of Foreign Affairs in the Philippines to have the said documents validated.

2.   All documents must be with English translation of the entries particularly the NAME of the student, SUBJECTS TAKEN (with descriptions), GRADES (narrative).

3.   Bring the authenticated academic records to the Department of Education and request for evaluation of documents for proper grade placement (Certificate of Evaluation).

4.   Submit the original copy of the Certificate of Evaluation to the Admissions Office together with clear photocopy of the following (bring the original copy for verification purposes):Foreign students are required to pay the APPLICATION and TESTING FEE US$20.00 as well as the one-time Foreign Students Fee of US$500.00 upon enrollment.

      a.   PASSPORT, particularly the bio-page and stamps of latest departure and arrival in the country and current VISA Page of both parents and student.

      b.   Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) I-Card ISSUED BY THE Bureau of Immigration

      c.   Documents for the issuance of Special Study Permit (SSP).

5.   Foreign students are required to pay the APPLICATION and TESTING FEE US$20.00 as well as the one-time Foreign Students Fee of US$500.00 upon enrollment.

6.   If with DUAL CITIZENSHIP: submit a photocopy of Philippine Passport and a Certificate of Recognition as a Filipino Citizen.

Nationality will be based on applicant’s documents presented at the time of the application.

STATUS OF APPLICATION

Test Result will be released THREE (3) days after testing for KINDER applicants.  An interview will be set by the Admissions Office as the final requirement of the application.

Status of the application for both PRE-KINDER and KINDER will be issued THREE (3) days after the date of interview.  Parents/guardians are encouraged to come on the scheduled date of the release of the status of application because some applicants may still be recommended for a RE-TEST or RE-INTERVIEW. Moreover, there are other instructions and deadlines to comply with for those who successfully passed admission requirements.

ENROLLMENT

Applicants are required to submit the ORIGINAL REPORT CARD to confirm enrollment on the date indicated in the acceptance letter.

The High School Units: JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (GRADES 7-10) and SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (GRADES 11 and 12) admit students whose academic records indicate ability and preparation to do High School work and whose personal traits give promise that they will be contributing members of the Scholastican Community.

Admission is based on requirements presented, results of examination and personal interview with the principal or one designated by her.

Non-Catholics can apply and be admitted provided they participate in all religious activities that are required of the students.  A waiver for non-Catholics can be found at the back of the application form and should be signed by parents or guardian of the applicants.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL:
LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

St. Scholastaica’s College Manila will be open to TRANSFEREES from K-12 READY SCHOOLS (PRIVATE SCHOOLS, PUBLIC SCHOOL and PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS) and applicants from other schools that do not offer Senior High School. 

Applicants from public schools and Night Secondary School need to present their school ID in order for their application and testing fee to be waived.

MALE APPLICANTS are welcome to join the LEADERSHIP ACADEMY in VISUAL AND ARTS TRACKS: Fine Arts and Music Strands.

For MUSIC TRACK Applicants: one has to secure a schedule for audition at the Music Department. If the applicant passes the audition, the applicant has to go back to the Admissions Office to get the TEST PERMIT.

FINANCIAL GRANTS will be offered to financially challenged students from the PUBLIC SCHOOLS as well as ACADEMIC and CULTURAL SCHOLARSHIPS for gifted students. (For information on application and requirements for scholarships and financial aid grants, kindly visit the Registrar’s Office.)

Only students who are currently enrolled in GRADE 10 may apply.  PASSERS of the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) must present the CERTIFICATE OF PASSING.

APPLICANTS must accomplish the TRACK AND INTERVIEW FORM (Track and Interview Form  for Senior High School) and must submit a Certified True Copy of Junior High School Certificate of Completion with Learner Reference Number before enrollment

St. Scholastica’s College (SSC) Night Secondary School (NSS) is committed to providing secondary education to girls who are economically challeged. It caters to working girls/women who are interested in improving their quality of life. 

NIGHT SECONDARY SCHOOL (NSS)

The applicants to the NSS must fulfill the following requirements:

1. Must be at least thirteen (13) years of age at the time of application. Application is also open to working students (at least Grade School graduate).

2. Must submit the Grade School report card (Form 138) or the result of PEPT.

3. Must submit a letter of recommendation duly accomplished by the employer, former teacher/principal and/or alumna, a copy of Birth and Baptismal Certificates.

4. Must pass the interview conducted by the NSS Screening Committee.

5. Must be willing to render service when needed.

Preferences are given to:

1. SSC school employees

2. House help of alumnae, faculty members, school personnel and students

3. Residents of nearby barangays

4. Those who belong to a low-income family.

*A minimum donation of Seven Hundred Pesos (P700.00) for the whole year will be collected upon enrollment.

COLLEGE

St. Scholastica’s College (SSC) seeks and aims to attract students who have the desire to successfully complete Tertiary Education.  Ability and potential success are determined by careful screening of applicants done by the Committee on Admissions based on stringent admission requirements.

Although St. Scholastica’s College is an exclusive school for women, admission of MALE STUDENTS in the following programs had been allowed: COGNATE, MUSIC and FINE ARTS.

PASSERS of the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) must present the CERTIFICATE OF PASSING.

TRANSFER APPLICANTS

Transfer students are those who have done college work elsewhere and are seeking admission to St. Scholastica’s College Manila.  They include those who started college work at SSC, transferred to other schools and are now seeking re-admission. 

Transfer students who wish to apply to SSC normally should not have completed more than four (4) semesters of collegiate work. The College reserves the right to classify the transferee based on existing curricular requirements.

In most instances, the College credits only the General Education subjects taken not more than 25% of the total number of units of the course applied for, no more than 18 units.

Aside from the accomplished APPLICATION FORM (APPLICATION FOR COLLEGE ADMISSION), transferees are required to submit the following requirements:

1.   ORIGINAL Birth Certificate by the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly National Statistics Office-NSO)

      FOR MARRIED APPLICANTS: Photocopy of MARRIAGE CONTRACT

2.   Photocopy of Baptismal Certificate (original copy has to be presented)

3.   Certified True Copy of Grades (TCG)/Records of Collegiate Grades certified by the school Registrar and/or recent copy of unofficial TRANSCRIPT OF RECORDS (TOR) from each college/school attended, for evaluation purposes.

4.   Description of the school’s GRADING SYSTEM (especially for those with Letter Grades) as well as the SUBJECTS taken.

5.   Two SSC Recommendation Forms for College Applicants (COLLEGE RECOMMENDATION FORM), enclosed in a sealed mailing envelops with the signature across the flap:

      –   from Dean

      –   from Professor or Counselor

6.   Accomplished SSC STUDENT HEALTH FORM

7.   One (1) piece 2×2 recent ID picture for Test Permit (identical with that in the application form)

If qualified, submit the following:

1.   Official transcript of records from all schools attended

2.   Transfer Credentials or Honorable Dismissal (for local transferees only)

ENROLLMENT POLICY FOR TRANSFER APPLICANTS

1.   Transfer applicants with no transfer credentials or honorable dismissal will not be allowed to proceed with enrollment.

2.   Transferees whose official HS transcripts (Form 137) and / or College Transcripts have not been forwarded to the Registrar’s Office within the first year of study may not be allowed to enroll for the succeeding school year. Transferees are expected to attend to this requirement as soon as possible since their enrollment is considered unofficial pending submission of this document.

INTERNATIONAL/FOREIGN APPLICANTS

Inquiries for admission to SSC by foreign students may be coursed through mail, phone, fax or e-mail. 

For immigration requirements of the Philippines, foreign applicants must inquire from the Philippine Consulate/Embassy of the country of origin.  If admitted, the applicant must submit a clear photocopy of the STUDENT VISA/PERMIT and ALIEN CERTIFICATION OF RESIDENCE (ACR). 

For those on TEMPORARY VISITOR VISA/ TOURIST VISA and would wish to pursue tertiary education in SSC, conversion of their visas from temporary visitor visa to STUDENT VISA should be done.  The list of requirements for said conversion may be secured from the Registrar’s Office. 

In case of an applicant whose native language or whose medium of instruction in the school is not English, submission of the result of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is necessary.  A minimum score of 500 on the paper-based test or 173 on the computer-based test or at least 61 if internet-based is required.  Test must have been taken not more than two (2) years ago.

Applicants accepted on the basis of their TOEFL or SAT results may be required to take the SSC entrance exam upon their arrival in the Philippines for validation purposes.  In case applicants need assistance in the area, they will be asked to enroll to the special English Program of the school, E-LACE before one could be accepted in the college unit.

Foreign students are required to pay the application and testing fee of US$20.00 as well as the one-time Foreign Students fee of US$500.00 upon enrollment.

INTERNATIONAL/FOREIGN TRANSFER STUDENT

International transfer students may be admitted for as long as they have NO FAILING GRADES and had satisfied other requirements prescribed for the degree programs for which they are seeking transfer. 

Applicants transferring from another Philippine school should secure from Commission on Higher Education (CHED) a permit to transfer.

DUAL CITIZENSHIP

A student holding dual citizenship who wishes to be considered as Filipino for the purpose of studying in the Philippines must submit prior to admission a copy of the order of the Identification Certificate issued by the Bureau of Immigration. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS AND APPLICANTS
WITH DUAL CITIZEN SHIP

Submit CLEAR PHOTOCOPY of the following (bring original for verification purposes): 

1.   Passport, particularly the bio-page and stamps of latest departure and arrival in the country.

2.   Student Visa or other latest Visa (accepted for study) and I-Card (must still be valid at least two months into the semester of first enrollment).

STATUS OF ADMISSION

Result of the application is released THREE (3) days after date of the interview.

Please inquire personally from the Admissions Office.  A letter informing applicant of the status will be given to you.  If you cannot come personally, please send a representative or messenger with a letter of authorization to claim result.

Come on the scheduled date of release since some applicants may still be recommended for a RE-TEST or RE-INTERVIEW.  Moreover, there are further instructions and deadlines to comply with for those who successfully passed our admission requirements.

REMINDERS

Applicants who are interested to enroll in SSC must submit their reply slips (attached: Acceptance Letter) to the Admissions Office soon after receipt of the status letter.  Information on the reply slips submitted serves as the basis for recording the applicants name under her/his choice of program. However, a slot will only be reserved for the accepted applicant after submission of the ORIGINAL report card or transfer credential/ honorable dismissal (for transferees)

St. Scholastica’s College (SSC) Graduate School seeks capable and motivated students who desire a Christian education that provides solid grounding in their selected program of study and who are willing to commit themselves to pursuing it.

Admission policies of the Graduate School of SSC are set by the Admissions Office in coordination with administration.  A variety of information about each applicant is considered in order to estimate ability and motivation to do successful work at SSC.  The student’s College record, test scores, recommendations, interview and the application give evidence of academic ability and potential.  It is the combination of these factors which determines admission to the graduate program.  St. Scholastica’s College welcomes to its student body qualified applicants without reference to gender, race, creed, ethnic and national origin or handicap.

QUALIFICATIONS

1.   Applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited/reputable institution of higher learning preferably with a major in the graduate area for which the applicant is applying.  Undergraduate Grade Point Average (GPAs) or Cumulative Quality Point Averages (CQPAs) required by the respective graduate areas must be complied with prior to admission to the graduate program.

2.   Applicants who complete their undergraduate degrees from institution other than SSC or applicants without the appropriate degree must have taken or will have to take undergraduate subjects and/or foundation subjects as prescribed in their chosen field or study.

3.   Applicants must pass the graduate school battery of tests which covers intelligence, aptitude and personality. 

4.   Non-English speaking applicant must pass the English Placement Test to enter the graduate program or provide scores of at least 500 on a TOEFL test taken within the previous two (2) years.  Students must have their official TOEFL scores sent directly to SSC’s Admissions Office prior to their registration at SSC.  In the event that an applicant has not taken the TOEFL test, enrollment in the prescribed English classes is required upon registration for the first and all subsequent terms at SSC, until such time as the proficiency in English has been judged to be sufficient.

5.   Preferably applicants must have had at least two (2) years of work experience in the course/program applied for.

2.   ORIGINAL Birth Certificate by the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly National Statistics Office-NSO)

3.   Photocopy of Baptismal Certificate (original copy has to be presented)

4.   One (1) additional 2×2 ID picture

5.   Accomplished two (2) SSC Recommendation Forms (one each from the applicant’s former School Administrators, Professor, Guidance Counselor,  and  the most recent employer or the last employer for those who have stopped working prior to program application) RECOMMENDATION FORM FOR GRADUATE SCHOOL

GENERAL ADMISSION POLICIES

An appointment will be set first with the Department Chair to assess credentials before an applicant can secure Application and Testing Permit.

1.   Secure Application Permit from the Admissions Office and proceed to the Business Office for payment of the application and testing fee set by the school.

2.   Present receipt to the Admissions Office and secure an Application Form and two (2) copies of SSC Recommendation Forms.

3.   Submit the requirements to the Admissions Office.

4.   Secure Test Permit from the Admissions Office.

5.   Take the entrance examination on the scheduled date given. Latecomers will not be allowed to take the examination.  Applicants may request for a re-schedule of test.

GRADE MAINTENANCE / RETENTION REQUIREMENTS

St. Scholastica’s College’s Graduate School expects all its students to meet its academic requirements to stay in their selected program of study. Thus, applicants are expected to meet the following:

1.   A minimum grade of 3.0 in all subjects or compliance with the program maintenance requirements;

2.   Interview by a panel of faculty members for those experiencing difficulties in meeting the program’s academic requirements.  Students having academic difficulties may be retained/ delisted upon the recommendation of the panel. Students may be put on academic probation for a semester. Continued failure to comply with the academic requirements set by the Graduate School will mean automatic removal from the program; and

3.   Students are discouraged from dropping/withdrawing a course to avoid delay in completing their program of study.

BEHAVIORAL

The Psychology and Guidance and Counseling Department reserves the right to decide on the retention of students manifesting attitudes and behaviors considered to be inimical to their performance as future counselors and psychologists.  Such students may be delisted /retained upon the recommendation of a panel of counselors / psychologists.

GRADUATION

1.   Completion of all academic requirements

2.   Passing of the written comprehensive examination

3.   Successful defense of thesis/project
